Gov. Okowa denies going abroad for treatment after slumping

– Delta governor Ifeanyi Okowa has returned to work a week after he slumped in his office at the state house in Asaba last week 

– Okowa shared a testimony of how loose wall tile in his office’s bathroom crashed on his head and sent him to the doctor’s for some stitches 

– Okowa denied ever leaving the shores of Nigeria for treatment abroad as was earlier widely reported

Delta state governor Ifeanyi Okowa has denied that he was ever flown abroad for treatment after slumping recently, saying he was only slightly injured. 

Sahara Reporters reports that Okowa made the denial on Wednesday, October 12 during a church service at the state government house’s chapel. 

Okowa however revealed that he was injured last week when wall tile in his bathroom fell on his head. But the injuries were so minor that it required The governor lamented reports claiming that he was gravely sick and had been flown abroad. 

“The truth is that last Wednesday, I entered the bathroom in my office and one of the tiles fell off from the wall, and I had a minor cut on my head and I had two stitches, and it was treated, and I was ok.

“People know I am a workaholic, and that Is why it didn’t stop me from working, I am hale and healthy. 

“I am told that certain section of the social media reported that I have been flown abroad for medical treatment. When and how did that happen? It is unfair and uncharitable to disseminate false information. 

“It is very unfortunate at this age and time that people will intentionally misinform others when there are opportunities to find out what might have happened.” Okowa said. 

Sahara Reporters disclosed that government house sources said the governor, who did not come to the office, is appearing in public for the first time today, October 12 since the incident last. 

Meanwhile, President Buhari is expected to jet out of Abuja late on Wednesday to arrive in Berlin early on Thursday, October 13 for a visit to the central European country. Sahara Reporters said he will among other things pay a visit to a local hospital although it is unclear whether the president has any kind of a medical problem or it’s an ordinary medical checkup. 

The presidency has however stated in a press statement on Wednesday that Buhari is going to Germany to hold bilateral meetings on Thursday and Friday, October 13-14.
